Notcom elected President of SimDemocracy

Today on the 11th of August, Election Supervisor Syndicality announced the results of the 148th Presidential Election: There had been a tie between joke candidate Ivy Cactus (who was concurrently serving as Reddit Supervisor and thus would be barred from accepting the election results) and Notcom of the Catgirl Party in the instant runoff (the 2nd round of our voting system). The draw was then resolved via the usual tiebreaker protocol of letting the candidate with the most votes in the first round, Notcom, win.

Now while there have been many extremely close elections in SimDem before, such as the 140th Presidential Election in which the instant runoff between Tech Support and DemocracyForYou was decided by a singular ballot in favour of the former, this one was the first to see accusations of election fraud being brought up against the winner.

Perhaps that is because of the newly elected President’s controversial history, having been put on a watchlist by the League of Servers due to crimes committed in a foreign nation previously, an action which almost saw her getting impeached from her post as a Senator back then. Furthermore, the Party Leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, of which the President is an honorary member, has a history of abusing alternative accounts within SimDemocracy to rig elections, a fact quickly picked up by critics of Notcom, although (of course) nothing could be proven yet.

Some people, such as sitting Senator Lucas (MMTM), have also expressed the opinion that Notcom’s election victory was likely fraudulent simply due to her extremely controversial policies, such as supporting infiltration into terrorist organizations. An earlier poll by Goldenflower Investigation and Reporting has shown that roughly 80% of active users were explicitly against this practice, although these results have to be taken in with caution due to their relatively high age (29th July 2025).

This leaves one with three potential options: Either (a) the election results are fraudulent, (b) the public has drastically changed its opinion on Notcom’s proposed policies, or (c) the public simply does not care. When considering that the topic at hand still is SimDemocracy politics, option C seems to be the most likely, although of course the others cannot be ruled out.

Taking a look at what the newly elected President has actually done in office on her first day, she has already issued one Executive Order declassifying the contents of old terrorism trials and Department of Justice operations, like she had promised in her campaign statements. She has also announced her Cabinet, appointing Moved to the position of Chief of Staff and Thyme to that of Attorney General as the previous AG (Literal) would have refused to oversee any infiltrations into terrorist organizations due to disagreement with the idea.

What this Presidency holds for SimDemocracy certainly is unclear, but what is certain is that it’ll be at least somewhat interesting.
