Petition to impeach Senator Notcom reaches Senate

This article was not published on the SimDem discord server, but only on this website.

Just yesterday, on the 30th of June, a petition authored by Mypen (@mypenjustbroke) and signed by twenty-five citizens of SimDemocracy, demanding the Senate impeach Senator Notcom (@notcommunist366), was made public in #general-announcements.

The “Petition for Impeachment of Senator notcommunist366 for Conduct Unbecoming an Elected Official” argued that the gross misconduct of staging a coup in a foreign country severely hurt SimDem’s international standing, and thus was unbecoming of an elected official.

The following is a direct quote from the petition:

“[S]he allegedly deleted key channels, granted admin to co-conspirators, and banned political opponents—actions inconsistent with the dignity, decorum, and responsibility expected of a SimDemocracy Senator. These actions have led to widespread diplomatic fallout, public outcry, and a loss of trust in SimDemocracy leadership abroad.”

In contrast, this all is somewhat overshadowed by Notcom recently having left the SimDemocracy discord server to take a break from all the action for one month. She would still participate in Senate votes via the subreddit though, so the question of if she will be impeached still matters.

As per the Petition Act 2024, the Senate is obliged to produce a response to the petition and to vote on it within 48 hours.

Whether or not the vote to impeach will be successful is still an open question, with both of the Senators I interviewed for this article (Rein and Sunbear) agreeing that the vote could go either way.

Full statement by Senator Rein (@tgrein) on the matter:

“i was certain in my head that notcom would probably recuse (atleast id hope), stalin and kelvin wouldnt budge, but thrill might. im not as sure about the other senators.”

Full statement by Senator Sunbear (@sunbear99999) on the matter:

“It’s hard to say for sure, but I do think we could’ve gotten at least a majority vote idk about 2/3 tho”
