Senate conducts hearing into arrest of Mythrows

Link to the original news post

Yesterday on the 23rd of July, the Senate decided to hold a hearing into the arrest of user Mythrows. Junior law enforcement officer Fish had arrested her one day before on the 22nd of July for the crime of Harassment; the arrest warrant had been approved by Judge Mrgamerboy.

The SDIOA, SimDem’s fourth-branch government oversight institution, actually had a complaint by an anonymous citizen reach them on the same day, the 22nd, requesting that the agency investigate the arrest due to its potential unlawfulness/incompliance with internal policy. In its report, it came to the conclusion that Fish had violated the Department of Justice’s internal policy, which required officers to ticket users, if their offence was a minor one, instead of arresting them.

Tangent on the difference between tickets and arrests

The difference between a ticket and an arrest is that a ticket usually only results in a mute of less than 48 hours, whereas an arrest is followed by an actual criminal trial, which might result in a guilty verdict and a monthlong ban. Furthermore, arrests require the confirmation of a Judge, but tickets don’t. To guarantee that law enforcement officers don’t abuse their ability to ticket persons, tickets can be rejected, in which case the mute is immediately undone, but this is usually followed by the Department of Justice seeking a proper arrest warrant. All in all, tickets are reserved for minor crimes where there has been no previous criminal record, whereas arrests are for major crimes such as Doxxing.

This leaves us with the question of how severe Mythrows’ harassment had been, which is quickly answered by an interview by SDIOA Agent Budo aka Saket with the victim of the alleged harassment, Kelvin. In the interview, he expressed that he had felt no apprehension due to Mythrows’ actions and that the two of them made jokes not unsimilar to what Mythrows had been arrested for with each other regurly. Thus, the SDIOA had come to express the opinion that the arrest had been wrongful in its report.

Notcom, a Senator and close friend of Mythrows, having come to the same conclusion as the SDIOA, decided to motion to hold a Senate hearing into the arrest, which is the hearing mentioned in the first paragraph. Upon having started, the hearing was immediately begun with harsh debate among Senators: Some members of the chamber, mainly Sunbear and Delulu, accused Notcom of abusing her position as a Senator to protect Mythrows, a close friend of hers. They argued that holding a hearing into a singular wrongful arrest by an inexperienced intern was wholly unnecessary, and that the hearing should be into Department of Justice conduct as a whole instead, if the issue truly was an institutional one, like Notcom claimed.

The questioned Fish, who only arrived after the Senators had already been arguing for a few hours, mirrored the sentiment of Senators Delulu and Sunbear, arguing that there clearly was a conflict of interest for NotCom, citing that she was currently representing Mythrows in court as her lawyer.

Overall, the hearing was rather chaotic, with the Speaker calling for order multiple times and even threatening to censure certain members of the chamber for their unbecoming behavior. It was closed via almost unanimous decision, with only two of twelve Senators wanting to continue the hearing, today on the 24th of July - only six hours after it had begun.

Concluding this article, while the arrest of Mythrows has since been rescinded, there also currently are multiple Senators advocating for the impeachment of Notcom due to her alleged abuse of power. But similarly to the last time an attempt at impeaching her from her office as Senator had been made a few terms ago, it probably won’t be successful, with seven Senators already having voted Nay.
