This morning on the 8th of July, Xi4 announced that he would be disbanding his political party, the Legal Union:
“Legal Union is being disbanded as it seems there are security concerns with certain people within the party”
The Legal Union was a party ridiculed with never ending controversy during its lifespan, being initially founded one month ago as a “party of the falsely accused”. This meant that it was mostly comprised of accounts who the general SimDem populace believed to be TIDE alts.
Very early in its lifespan, the party initiated a civil lawsuit against multiple persons due to allegedly non-factual allegations of the party being a “TIDE front”. Party Leader and Founder Xi4 also invited any private individuals who believed to be falsely accused of being TIDE alts to join the lawsuit.
The case ended up landing in Heinrich’s court, where the three plaintiffs (Xi4, Hi and Rab4) argued with the defendants’ (Notcom, DemocracyForYou, Tie, Whitethommy and Lyoko) lawyer about whether defamation required one to know a specific statement to be false, or only to say it in an intentionally misleading manner and about further legal intricacies.
In the almost one month the case had been heard, the presiding Judge was swapped once and then swapped back again and multiple persons - some of them banned from SimDem - were invited to provide testimonial. But most notably, the case didn’t even enter trial, still remaining at pre-trial. It seems we’ll have to wait some more time for a conclusion on this matter.
Adding to this controversy, when Party Leader Xi4 was elected to the 144th Senate, he was immediately impeached by a 2/3rds majority of sitting Senators, due to probable allegations of his party containing multiple TIDE alts and him not doing anything against it. These accusations were not unfounded, as at this point, multiple Legal Union party members had been legally arrested or banned for being TIDE alts (Terrorist Conspiracy). While Xi4 gratuitously defended himself in the chamber with multiple five-or-more-paragraph messages, the impeachment vote still ended up passing referendum, further reinforcing the party’s unpopularity.
This all, and the recent election loss in the 145th Senatorial Election, persuaded the Party Leader Xi4 to take the most reasonable step forward: To disband the party. He himself commented that there were no chances of future electoral success for his party. This story is not 100% over though, as a verdict is still being awaited in the defamation lawsuit mentioned earlier in this article.
