Today on the 21st of July, Secretary of Expansion Deus announced he would be stepping down from his post, citing that he hadn’t been able to really keep up with the department’s work after his weeklong vacation to Romania, during which Deputy Secretary Quad took upon his duties, as his reason.
This actually also was who he recommended to President Thyme to appoint as his successor: Deputy Secretary of Expansion Quad, who had worked in the department for about six months now; a few hours later though, she decided to refuse the appointment, recommending the President appoint Medmouse, a long-time employee within the department for about two months, to the position instead.
The President, on the other hand, decided to instead pivot to appointing Muggy, someone who had previously been Secretary of Expansion in January and February, which has sparked some public outrage, with some members of the public criticizing the President for disregarding the recommendations given to her by the department itself.
The following is a quote from President Thyme providing reasoning for her decision:
The President does not have to honor recommendations for replacement from outgoing Secretaries - Quad is not even an outgoing Secretary. Muggy built the [Department of Expansion] with her blood sweat and tears - Muggy is an effective leader in every single metric, why the FUCK wouldn’t I want her leading the department she built?
The drama has since been resolved though, with both Medmouse and Quad having since indicated that they are okay with the President’s decision and harbor no disdain for her or the newly appointed Muggy. The Senate has also already unanimously voted in favour of the appointment following a relatively short hearing.
